A question I want to enroll in an Accelerated BSN program for next year or a 2nd degree BSN program. I was wondering if I took an EMT course and get certified would this be beneficial? I currently work for the center that offer these programs (amongst others) and I wonder if this will help for nursing. I know that EMTs (and paramedics) deal with different concerns than nurses but experience must be good right? Or does this not matter. The program is expensive and even if I get a discount, it still is intensive. Did anyone do this before they apply to nursing? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you! |

OOTD I have a closet full of dresses, but nowhere to wear them so I'm trying to be someone who wears dresses just because and not because I have somewhere particular to be. This day, however, I had a very glamorous interview at the unemployment office so they could make sure I'm worthy of receiving my unemployment checks. What's the dress code for THAT?? plus-size nursing tank tops/bras Hey y'all! With a first child due in about two months and a gung-ho ambition regarding breastfeeding, I am looking at a serious need for some comfortable nursing attire. I'm wondering if you gals have any good experiences to help me. I prefer underwire bras. In fact, I pretty much can't stand anything BUT underwires, because they don't give enough support. I'm a huge fan of the Cacique balconette bras from LB (the ones made by the old manufacturer, anyway) and wear a 42 DDD in that brand. I'm actually more like a double-D-and-a-half, but go a size up so my cups don't runneth over. Now that I'm 7 months pregnant, they're pretty well filled out even with the size up. Anyway! My shirt size is a 26/28 over my belly, and a 22/24 through the shoulders. What I would really like to find is a longer-length nursing tank that has a built in cup bra (not a shelf/sports bra style - they don't offer enough support), preferably with an underwire, that comes in plus sizes. I've been looking for something that even meets 'most' of those points since I found out I was pregnant, and have had no luck. Whether such a creature exists or not, I don't know, but I'm hoping if it does, you lovely fatshionistas will know about it!! Also, what have you done that works well for nursing tops? I can't really wear button-down shirts all the time (they look awful on me, due to tiny shoulders and a round belly even when NOT full of baby) and am sort of at a loss as to what else to do. Share your stories, if you'd like! Thank you! Current Mood: curious |

Fashion Anxiety.... Thanks in no small part to this community, I just bought my first dress in about 15 years. ( And I got it on E-bay for 1/2 price... squeeeee!) I'm normally a jeans and t-shirt kinda person, but I'm trying to break out of my fashion ruts. One thing that has been instilled in me since birth is that you MUST match your shoes to your dress to your accessories. I don't want to be that boring any more, but I haven't the slightest clue what to wear with this dress: First, I'm concerned I'll have to wear a camisole or something underneath, since it appears pretty low cut and I'm planning to wear it to work. Secondly, my boss is in the throes of menopause, so it's a constant 62 degrees in the office, necessitating a cardigan of some sort. So what color of cardigan/ camisole should I look for? I have a necklace in shades of white, teal, and purple that I think would look great with the neckline....so would a sort of plum or lilac colored cardigan look good? And then there's shoes. **sigh** My shoe size typically an 11W and I really can't afford more than $40 for a pair of shoes, which limits my "colorful" options. I've been on the hunt for a pair of silver ballet flats in my size/price range, but can't seem to find anything. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :) Just for reference, I'm 5'11", 320 lbs, and usually wear a 26/28. I've been lurking here for a while, but I promise I'll post pics when I get my first real "outfit" together! |

So, The Doctor Today......Ya Know My Life MUST Be A Doctor Who Episode, Cause My Doctor DANCED (Arms And Legs All Akimbo, He Looked Like One Of Those Old Fashioned Jig Dolls lol) For Me! lol It Was All To Make Me Relax, But Still, Heeheehee, Unfortunately My Doctor Does NOT Resemble David Tennent AT! ALL!
Okies The News. My Blood Pressure Was WAY Too High, So Now I'm On Meds For That! I'm Also Gonna Have To Do An Overnighter Or Two In The Hospital, Because They Want To Find Out Exactly Why I'm Not Sleeping.
He Added Welbutrin (The Lowest Dose, Of Which I Take Half, Twice A Day) To My 200 mg Of Zoloft. I Will Also Have To Check My BP At Least 3 Times A Day, And Watch It For A Few Weeks. All In All Not TOO Bad, If The Welbutrin Works I Won't Have To Go Through That Very Awful Period Of Testing Meds, So Wish It Luck. Other Then That, I Still Have To Do The Ob/Gyn And Dentist, But At Least Some Is Done. |

Halter Tops Hi,
I'm having a hard time finding halter tops this summer. (I've scoured ebay, torrid, gap, old navy.) I'm looking for non-black ones. I love them for basic summer wear. Outside of work I just wear halter top/ tank top, cardigan or cute hoodie (depending on the weather), skirt and flip flops. So they are a pretty important staple.
Solid colors would be cool but I'd love some print ones. Like gingham, seersucker, cherries, dots, plaid, pin-stripping, fun animal prints would be great. I'm into the whole rockabilly look, so if you find something rockabillish that you think is awesome, please let me know as well. Always on the look out for another great wardrobe addition.
I'm anywhere from a xl (in old navy) to a 2x (in target) and all sorts of in betweens 16-22. 40-D is the important part.
So if you see any along your journey's let me know or maybe you have a few that you never wear and want to part with me.
Thanks a bunch. |

Cycle 10 Finale Discussion
And the winner is...Cycle nine winner Saleisha Stowers stops by to cheer on the contestants during their Cover Girl commercial and print ad shoot. One of the models fails to deliver and is sent packing. The final two face off on the runway at a once-in-a-lifetime fashion event in the race to become America's Next Top Model.Remember to read and follow the rules. Don't be rude to other members, don't post spoilers, etc. We will be monitoring for these things and issuing notes/warnings as necessary. But if you see any problems that have not been dealt with, please let us know at topmodel_mods. This should be a fun place for everyone to enjoy ANTM, especially the finale. Have fun! |

I think clothing retailers hate me. No, really. They do. Every time I decide I hate a clothing item, they're everywhere. As soon as I decide that I really do like said item and want to wear it every day, they're gone. With that said. All I want is shorts and camis! Cute shorts. Short shorts, or plaid shorts, or short plaid shorts. I can find shorts, but they usually hit a few inches above the knee, which is a super awkward length and really odd looking- so I like short shorts (4" inseam or less). I can't find any that aren't ridiculously expensive or pleated (old navy, I'm looking at you!)...I ordered a pair from ON that are hopefully on their way. I've also been looking for cute plaid bermuda shorts, but they seem to not exist in colors that aren't variations on purples or grays or reds...all I want is green or pink! And if I could find the perfect short plaid shorts...I think I might die (an example of what I'm looking for: Why can't they just make these in plus sizes?? I'm much less picky about colors for these) Oh! And I wear a 22, which is unfortunately just past the biggest size I've been able to find anywhere. I'm also looking for camis with built in underwire bras- or at least with molded cups. I'm usually more of a 14-18 in these, but I don't even know where to begin looking- the only one I have that I really adore is Fashion Bug and they don't have them anymore :( Also! I posted a month or 2 ago about the fit of dresses from David's Bridal for my prom, and I must say, my dress was pretty fantastic. The only size around mine the store had was a 26 (I needed a 22) and none of the other stores in Florida had them, so we ended up taking that one and altering it. Total cost of the dress with $100 of alterations: $250. Yuck. But this was the biggest part of my graduation present, so. One picture of that under the cut, along with my fantastic senior pictures. Fiercees Nominees and Winners So The Fiercee Awards were on Tyra today! I know a lot of you weren't able to tune in, so I have all of the winners for you! Sutan was 'Miss Fiercee' and gave out the awards to all the girls. He was in full drag and was undeniably the FIERCEST person in the whole show! Toccara won the Life Time Achievement Award, presented by Tyra. Rest of the winners.. |

If you don't want to know who won what, don't click. ^^;;; ( And the Fiercee Award goes to...! )Tyra says: "see ya next year!" (Holy crap you guys, this post took me 2 hours to put together... More examples of Tyra's hypocrisy We all know Tyra is a hypocrite, but this cycle there are some obvious examples of things that the top 4 girls have/have done that have gotten other girls kicked off in other Cycles. It is really hampering my enjoyment of the Cycle, as I feel Tyra is playing favorites. Examples (In parenthesis I put the girls from other Cycles who suffered Tyra's wrath): Anya – Weird accent that is hard to understand, yet NO mention about needing voice training or getting rid of the accent for commercials. (Danielle, C6) Whitney – Being "small" for a plus size model and losing weight while on the show (I don't know if I see it, but some other people here have commented on it) (Sarah, C9) Fatima – Missing a photo shoot for personal reasons (Robin, C1, Anna, C2, Monique, C7) Dominique – Looking old (Melrose, C7, Renee, C8) I'm not really holding this stuff against these girls, but it bothers me that the panel is selectively choosing the things they complain about this season. GNTM Season 3 Episode 1 GNTM is my favorite top model. Its twice as long as ANTM, Heidi Klum is an amazing host who is actually around a LOT (unlike Tyra who seems to only do panels now). The German girls are stunning (almost all could be models already) and the training they get in insane in comparison to ANTM (each week they do runway in front of the judges, almost every week they have go-sees for actual jobs!). Plus they travel a TON (this year we aren't even at the midway point and they have been 4 different countries outside of Germany). Also they get real shows and shoots almost every week! If that didn't hook you, you should watch because Heidi Klum and the judges make almost every single girl cry every single week and think she is going home!! (Yes I am evil!) A mod gave me the go ahead to start posting the episodes which are subtitled (as mentioned in an earlier post yesterday). Now that ANTM is ending we can watch this along with AUSNTM and BNTM. I am planning on posting one ep a day until we are caught up and then I will post as they come available. If this is too fast a pace, let me know and I will stagger them more. PLEASE NO SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS! I know it has aired to episode 11 or something in Germany, but remember some people will be watching for the first time. So episode discussion only! The Fug Girls Handicap the Finale As tonight’s finale of America's Next Top Model looms — at stake for the "lucky" winner: a year of being relegated to terrible TV spots, traveling to CoverGirl factories, and getting almost no other work — we find ourselves struggling to decide which of the three remaining model wannabes is most likely to bring it home. There's Whitney, the first plus-size girl to make it this far; Fatima, an occasionally bitchy Somalian beauty with a heartbreaking backstory; and Anya, who gamely allowed the ANTM crew to wash her hair with peroxide, talks like a Russian surfer chick with an adenoid problem, and somehow manages to win a lot of challenges. It's a tight contest — even resident horndog Nigel Barker doesn't seem to be batting his bedroom eyes at anyone in particular — but that won't stop us from making predictions about the contestants' chances. Thanks for all the good information about the stimulus payments, everybody! Based on what you gave me, it appears that both of ours should have come through electronically on the 9th, so...hmph.
Could be an issue with the bank account, because I had to freeze it when my purse was stolen, but I had it set it to receive deposits only in anticipation of this coming through (so anyone who wants to deposit money into my old checking account, feel free to do so any time the urge strikes). I'll give it a few more days and see what happens before doing anything that resembles actual work to find out what's going on.

I'm looking for a little help here.
We are supposed to pick one prominent woman/man in Nursing History and write a paragraph or two about them. I don't need research information I just need a few names. I really don't want to go searching the web for random nurses. Just to come up with little or no information. Florence Nightingale is always an obvious choice but from what i understand almost every student each year does the report on her. I want to be different. Any help would be appreciated! I also thought it would be interesting to see who everyone else has studied in nursing history because we have not studied anyone in nursing history this year.
Any help would be great. All i need is a few names to get me started!
Also to add this one of those projects that they seem to be throwing in there just to fill a points requirement for a tiny little class.... (uhg!!!) |
